There is no single passing percentage for the whole world. It depends on your country, board, school and sometimes the subject.
Typical ranges
- Many school boards set the pass mark between 33 and 40 percent.
- Some universities require 50 percent or a minimum grade such as D or C.
- Some programmes need a minimum in each paper, not only overall.
How to check
- Read the examination rules or the student handbook.
- Find out if you must pass each subject and also the total.
- Calculate your overall percentage and compare.
Our Student Mark Calculator shows pass at 40 percent by default. Treat that as a guide and confirm with your own board.
