Your GPA is the average of your grade points, weighted by credit hours. A course with more credits counts more.
The formula
GPA = Sum of (grade points x credit hours) / Total credit hours
Common grade points (4.0 scale)
- A and A+ = 4.0
- A- = 3.7
- B+ = 3.3
- B = 3.0
- C = 2.0
- D = 1.0
- F = 0.0
Example
Course 1: A (4.0) with 3 credits gives 12.0. Course 2: B+ (3.3) with 3 credits gives 9.9. Course 3: A- (3.7) with 4 credits gives 14.8.
Total points are 36.7 and total credits are 10. GPA = 36.7 / 10 = 3.67.
